Alumina is a white crystalline powder produced by calcination of aluminium hydroxide.As the calcination temperature increases,it transforms through ansitional crystal structure until reaching α( alpha )-alumina. α-alumina is extremely stable chemically,with a high melting temperature. It exhibits superior mechanical strength and extreme hardness as well as high electrical insulation and high thermal conductivity .
